With just four meets to go, the 2015 season is in full swing. Meets included college/university meets at the University of Chicago, University of Illinois, North Central College, Olivet-Nazerene University, University of Houston, and the Wisconsin USATF Open & Masters Indoor Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
Highlights were plenty during the season's first half. Newcomer, Shaun Brooks debuted her Masters career with the 800 m run at the Ted Haydon Holiday Classic. She completed the two lap race in 3:30. Congratulations Shaun! Lee Bridges opened his indoor season much like he finished his 2014 outdoor season. Lee traveled to his Alma mater, University of Illinois, and posted two nation-leading times in the 200 m (23.52) and 400 m (52.18). His number one ranking in the 200 m remains, however his ranking in the 400 m has since been eclipsed.
Coaches Jamo & Culpepper prepared their athletes well and it shows. The team cranked out numerous PRs. Leo crossed the tape of the 60 m dash in 8.03 at the North Central College Opener, while Deaneen clocked a 30.35 in the 200 m dash at the Olivet-Nazarene Invitational. Emma shaved fractions from her 400 m dash three times, arriving at 1:00.22 during the Olivet-Nazarene meet. She also snagged a second PR at Olivet, running 26.27 in the 200 m dash. Yours truly also recorded a PR at Olivet, running a 24.14 in the 200 m dash. The heavy hitter was Mike Young. Competing in his first meet of the season, Mike recorded three PRs at the Wisconsin USATF meet: 7.64 in the 55 m dash, 27.87 in the 200 m dash, and 28' 0.25" in the triple jump. Way to go, Mike!
While the girls and boys from Illinois were competing, our eXplosion connection in Texas, Kerry Sloan, was busy too. Kerry created his own version of the pentathlon at the Houston Masters Senior Invitational. Kerry ran the 60 m dash, the 60 m hurdles, and the 800 m run. He also competed in the long jump and the high jump!
Next up for the team on Saturday, February 21, is the Olivet-Nazarene Final Qualifier. Keep up the good work, ladies and gentlemen!
